Wamakers offers a variety of courses, including three certificate courses that run for eight consecutive weeks and a number of short courses that only run for a couple of days. Courses take place at the Centre in Wellington from 8:00 - 16:00, Monday to Friday. Courses are presented in Afrikaans three times a year and in English once a year.
All Certificate Course students are to complete the Basic Home Management course of 2 weeks and thereafter select one of the following:
To continue for a further 6 weeks in a course that prepares students for employment as day care mothers, or as assistants in cruches and other pre-school centres, or as a housekeeper with this additional qualification as a child carer, or
To continue training for a further 6 weeks in a course that prepares students for employment as frail care assistants within an institution, or as nurse-aids in a private home or in the community, or
To continue training for a further 6 weeks at a profession Hairsalon that prepares students for employment as Haidressing salon assistants.
Requirements: Ability to read and write English or Afrikaans; Grade 9; At least 18 years of age; No criminal record. Due to the physical strain of practicals it is not advised to join a course if expecting mothers are in their second trimester of pregnancy.
Needed at registration: Copy of ID + 2 x ID photos. Registration to be done at least a week prior to commencement of course.
Cost: Fee of R2 250 paid as follows: R650 paid on registration + R1600 on or before commencement of course.
Fee includes: Lectures, Handbooks, Certificate and Certificate Ceremony.
Fee excludes: Re- examination (R100 per exam); Uniform for Frail care and Child and Baby Care; Refreshments; Stationary, Black hardcover book.
Dress code: Casual but neat. The uniform is only to be worn during in-service training hours. Hair should be neat, nails short and clean, and minimum make-up and jewellery.
Absenteeism: A doctor's certificate is needed if a student is absent for more than 2 days.
In-service Training: It will be expected of students to complete the given amount of hours at an approved institution.
Accommodation: Accommodation must be arranged by student.
